Below is a summary of the spoilers.

In Mexico, Isabel Aretas (Kate del Castillo), the wife of the late king of the Benito Aretas cartels, escapes from prison with the help of her son Armando (James Scipio). Released, Isabel sends her son to Miami to retrieve the money her husband hid before his death. She also hires him to kill several people who she believes are responsible for her imprisonment and the death of her husband. She gives Armando specific instructions that Miami Detective Mike Lowry (Will Smith) should be the last to be killed.

Meanwhile, in Miami, Mike accompanied his partner Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) to the birth of his first grandchild. Along the way, Marcus tells his friend that he wants to retire to spend more time with his family. Mike is not happy with the idea of Marcus stepping down because he thought they would still be partners. They attend a celebration of the birth of Marcus and Mike’s grandson, who was shot by Armando on the street in front of the bar. Mike goes into a coma for six months. Isabel is not happy about Mike’s shooting, she has given her son the last order to kill him, but Armando continues to kill other people while Mike is in a coma.

When Mike wakes up from his coma, he decides to find the man who shot him. He tries to lure Marcus out of retirement for one last trip, but Marcus refuses and tries to convince Mike to quit too. Mike is angry that his friend doesn’t support his quest for revenge, and they argue. Mike begins his own investigation and discovers the identity of arms dealer Booker Grassi (Rory Markham). Captain Conrad Howard (Joe Pantoliano), Mike’s commanding officer, learns of Mike’s mission and realizes he cannot control him. Instead, he reluctantly lets Mike work with the Advanced Miami Metro Operations (AMMO) team in charge of the investigation. The AMMO is led by Mike’s ex-girlfriend, Lieutenant Rita Cecededa (Paola Nunez), who has no interest in Mike’s involvement in the investigation.

The AMMO team is monitoring Grassi for his involvement in arms smuggling. However, Mike determines that the buyers are planning to kill Grassi, and in a vain attempt to save Grassi, he shuts down surveillance. Soon after, Marcus gets a call from a former informant named Carver Remy (Ivo Nandi) who thinks the killer is on his trail. Marcus contacted Mike, and the two unknown friends went to Carver’s hotel to talk to him. They find Carver dead, but Armando is still out there. Armando and Mike fought, but the killer got away.

Captain Howard met with Mike and informed him that he had to leave the investigation. Howard also tells Mike that he is retiring and gives him advice on how to find a life outside of law enforcement. However, Howard is shot shortly after by Armando’s powerful rifle and dies. Howard’s death forces Marcus to come out of retirement to help his friend, but Marcus is determined to cooperate fully with WOSM and not act like a brat.

The AMMO team tracks down Grassi’s accountant, who leads the investigation team to Lorenzo Zway-Lo Rodriguez (Nicky Jam). The team sneaks into a gangster’s birthday party at a local bar. Things go wrong and the team chases a speeding car. Armando arrives by helicopter to rescue Two-Lo, but kills him instead when he blocks Armando’s ability to shoot Mike. Mike gets in the helicopter and Armando stops him. The hitman lets Mike know he’s canceling the chase. Marcus shoots at the helicopter and creates enough of a distraction for Mike to fall safely into the water.

Due to the failure of the operation and the significant damage to property, WADA will be closed. Private, Mike tells Marcus that Armando could be his son. Mike reveals that before becoming Marcus’ partner, he worked undercover for the Aretas Cartel, where he met Isabel. Mike admits that he fell in love with Isabel and started a relationship with her. The couple planned to run away together. But while Isabel wouldn’t give up the drug cartels’ lifestyle, Mike remained loyal to the police. Mike revealed that they used hasta el fuego as a made-up secret phrase. Mike works out a plan to confront Isabel in Mexico City. Marcus and AMMO agreed to accompany him despite his resistance.

Once in Mexico City, Mike travels to Hidalgo’s palace with the help of Marcus and the AMMO team. Mike confronts Isabel and tells her that she should have told her son the truth about his father. The AMMO loses connection and they realize Isabelle is following them. AMMO and Isabelle’s men are in a firefight. Marcus shoots down the pilot of Isabelle’s evacuation helicopter, causing it to crash into the palace lobby. The accident caused a fire. Marcus takes on Isabel while Mike confronts his son.

Mike tries to tell Armando the truth, but the killer keeps hitting Mike. Mike doesn’t resist. Mike’s sincerity finally won out over Armando’s anger. He confronts his mother and demands the truth. Isabelle confirms that Mike is her father. Armando realizes that his mission and a large part of his life are based on lies. Armando tries to protect his father, after which Isabel accidentally shoots him in the chest. Disturbed by the death of her son, Isabel tries to kill Mike, but Rita intervenes and shoots Isabel. Isabelle is thrown into the fire by the explosion and is killed. Marcus almost gets caught in the fire himself, but is pulled to safety by Mike and Armando, who are still alive.

Soon after, Rita was promoted to captain of police, replacing Howard. Mike and Marcus, who did not retire, led the WMO team. Mike visits his son in prison, who tells his father that he has a price to pay for his past crimes. Mike offers him the opportunity to earn some extra money by taking on special missions, which Armando accepts.
